REA wins first National Green PROPER award in East Kalimantan for oil palm
REA is proud to announce that its Cakra Oil Mill has become the first palm oil mill in East Kalimantan to receive the National Green PROPER (Program Penilaian Peringkat Kinerja Perusahaan dalam Pengelolaan Lingkungan Hidup) award under the 2024 PROPER assessment. This award exemplifies REA’s commitment to environmental excellence and sustainable industrial practices.
PROPER is a national environmental performance rating system instituted by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. It evaluates companies not only on regulatory compliance but also on their efforts to implement proactive environmental measures. By assessing key areas such as pollution control, energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation, biodiversity protection, and community development, PROPER serves as a benchmark for sustainable practices across various sectors of Indonesia.
REA has consistently demonstrated its commitment to environmental responsibility. Since 2019, REA’s three palm oil mills, Perdana, Cakra and Satria, have maintained their Green rating in the PROPER assessments conducted annually by the East Kalimantan Provincial Environmental Agency. This highlights REA’s proactive approach and commitment to meeting and even exceeding environmental standards, going beyond compliance and embracing evolving sustainable agricultural practices.
“Our achievement on the National Green PROPER award highlights our commitment as a responsible organisation in sustainable development and livelihood enrichment,” said Dr Bremen Yong, REA’s Chief Sustainability Officer. “We will continuously strive to go beyond compliance by integrating innovative environmental management with sustainable good agricultural practices (GAP) across all our operations.”
REA is guided by four strategic pillars: Sustainable Development, Climate Action, Forest Preservation, and Empowering Livelihoods. Under the Climate Action pillar, REA has introduced renewable energy initiatives such as methane capture facilities and enhanced energy efficiency measures that reduce fossil fuel reliance and lower emissions. In parallel, REA actively collaborates with its supply chain to promote sustainable agricultural practices. Combined with meaningful stakeholder engagement, these initiatives underscore REA's commitment to driving transformative changes and creating lasting value for our communities, industry, and the environment.
