Release of a Corporate-announcement, transmitted by DGAP - a company of EquityStory AG.

In the context of a first financing round, Heliad Equity Partners has taken a participation of EUR 3.5 million in ecolutions GmbH & Co. KGaA. ecolutions makes broad-based investments on a global basis in projects which result in a reduction of CO2 emissions or which absorb CO2. According to the Kyoto Protocol, operators of such projects receive carbon emission rights which can later be sold at a profit to institutional clients on European and other trading systems, generally OTC. Examples of such projects include sealing landfills, solar systems, biomass power stations or biofuels, especially in newly industrialising and development countries. With the participation, Heliad opens up access to the market for emission rights trading. Due to current market inefficiencies it is possible to implement highly profitable investments here. In addition to this segment, ecolutions also invests in projects and companies which either benefit from changed climate conditions or offer solutions for the resulting problems.
+++ On climate change
The new UNO climate report published at the beginning of February present the climate change as an undisputed fact for the first time. The consequences are dramatic. Even if no additional greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide were emitted into the air as of today, the climate would still become warmer for centuries. One of the central triggers of climate change is considered to be the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Here CO2 is regarded as one of the most important greenhouse gases. In recent years, emission momentum has accelerated. According to an investigation of the Energy Information Administration it increased by an average of 0.8 percent per year in the period between 1980 and 1999. Now in the period between 2000 and 2005, it rose by an average of 3.2 percent a year.

Even if most experts are of the opinion that the climate change is irreversible, a rapid reduction of the emission of green house gases – particularly CO2 – can still considerably reduce the consequences. At the same time, new technologies can help mankind to cope with the changed environmental conditions. Since the Kyoto Protocol, trading with emission rights has become an important instrument for reducing greenhouse gases harmful to the environment. A central element of the Protocol is the Clean Development Mechanism which allows the acquisition of carbon emission rights on the basis of participating in climate projects in newly industrialising countries.
