Sony Music Entertainment (New York/Tokyo) announced yesterday that it is
acquiring a 49% stake in the European classical music business of listed
company DEAG Deutsche Entertainment AG (WKN 551390), in which Heliad holds
a 17.53% share.
To that end, effective 7 July 2009, Sony has acquired 49% of the capital of
DEAG Classics AG (Berlin) from DEAG Deutsche Entertainment AG for a
double-digit million euro amount, under an agreement containing fixed and
earn-out components. Execution of the agreement is subject to the obtaining
of approvals, inter alia, from the responsible anti-trust authorities.
DEAG Classics AG's has declared its intent to expand its existing
contractual relationships with artists like David Garrett, Plácido
Domingo, Anna Netrebko, Jonas Kaufmann, Jessye Norman, Rolando Villazón,
Elina Garanca, Lang Lang and others. Simultaneously, the company plans to
further expand into a number of European countries and to strengthen its
crossover area.
