++ Heliad commits EUR 5 million in Creathor Venture Fund II, one of the leading German venture capital funds

++ First step in the implementation of the 'partner fund strategy' that has been announced in April

Heliad Equity Partners committed EUR 5 million in Creathor Venture Fund II ('Creathor II'). Creathor II is a leading venture capital fund that focuses on young technology companies in Germany.

Creathor was launched in 2003 by Dr. Gert Köhler, who is well-known as one of the most successful venture investors in Germany. In the 1990s, Dr. Köhler jointly with a partner set up the venture capital company Technologieholding. Due to several spectacular successes, he subsequently established the company within just a few years as one of Europe's best-known venture capital companies, and later divested it successfully to 3i in 2000. Many of today's blue-chip technology firms received their first investment from Dr. Köhler and Technologieholding. With Creathor II, Dr. Köhler continues pursuing Technologieholding's original strategy of acquiring, at a very early stage, interests in companies that have an outstanding technological basis and simultaneously require vigorous support with their expansion. In this respect, the strategy combines the working methods of traditional venture capital companies on the one hand and the hands-on-oriented approach of business angels on the other.
Due to this commitment in Creathor II, Heliad is taking the first step in its implementation of the partner fund strategy that was announced in April. The intention of this strategy is that up to approx. 15% of the Heliad portfolio may be invested not directly in companies, but in partner funds that are complementary with Heliad. The partner funds' commitments focus is generally upstream, i.e. in the venture capital segment, or partly overlapping, i.e. in the growth capital segment. With its partner fund strategy Heliad is, on the one hand, pursuing the objective of further diversifying its own portfolio and generating attractive returns. On the other hand, there are several synergies between Heliad and the partner funds which can be beneficial for both parties investing alongside each other. Partner Funds typically provide competencies in the field of realizing business ideas to complement business models that have already been established successfully on the market, while Heliad will bring in its experience in the areas of further corporate growth and exit ability via the capital markets.
